G.E. Messinger Shoe Repair has been in business since 1968, when Don Messinger purchased Floyd Carother's Repair Shop located at 114 East Sixth St. in Medford. Gerry joined his brother in 1969  and they renamed the business Messinger Brother's Shoe Repair. Don retired in 1979, and Gerry and his wife, Prudence, ran the shop together until 1984 when their son-in-law, Randy Geroux, joined them. In the tradition of his father before him, Gerry trained Randy, passing on a legacy of wisdom, experience, and superb craftsmanship.

Gerry started working in his father's repair shop in Kansas City, KS in 1933 at the age of 13. It was from his father that he learned the art of expert craftsmanship, commitment to quality, devotion to service, and a desire to help people with their orthotic difficulties. Gerry's father was an amputee who designed his own leg and was always searching for innovative ways to improve comfort and function, for himself and for others. Gerry continued with these interests after leaving the Air Force in 1945, working in the engineering, mechanical, and service industries until returning to his roots with the move to Medford.

The business moved to its present location at 221 E. Main St., with Norris Shoes, in July of 1989, and Gerry retired in 1991. The business is now run by Randy and his wife Terri. It is still very much a family business, and you can often find one of Randy and Terri's children at the shop helping out in various ways.

Messinger's is a full service repair shop, specializing in all types of shoe and boot repair, zipper work and replacements, luggage, purse, and tack repairs, custom dye work, and orthopedic corrections.
